About Me

I am a passionate martial artist with a strong academic background, a ton of teaching experience, and a unique perspective fueled by a lifetime of interest in martial arts. I spent years of dedication developing myself as a martial artist, consistently seeking out respected teachers and fantastic training experiences across the country and around the world.

Honesty and integrity in the martial arts are important to me and it is with those values that I approach my training.

I’m not here to peddle “ancient secrets” or promise you’ll be able to defeat anybody by learning three simple pressure points. The only path to getting good at martial arts is consistent hard work. My goal is to share what I've learned with you as I continue my training in a wide variety of martial arts techniques with a focus on progressive, goal-oriented methodology.

My Approach to Martial Arts Training...
Is based on developing four distinct areas. The idea is to properly align the methods we use with each area of skill development we hope to improve.

Training

Attribute Development, Conditioning, Health, and Wellness

The emphasis is on utilizing traditional techniques to train the athletic attributes of the practitioner: strength, flexibility, balance, and coordination. I typically accomplish this through a variety of martial movement disciplines, but with a strong foundation in Tae Kwon Do.

Martial Conditioning

Functional Fighting and Sport Combatives

The emphasis is on the methods of dynamic drilling that most effectively transfer to functional skill against a resisting opponent. I typically use the methodologies outlined in Jeet Kune Do Concepts to explore functional techniques from a variety of combat sports.

Partner Flow and Adaptability

The emphasis is on building a good partnering skill and the ability to spontaneously respond and adapt. I typically employ flow drill methodologies found in the Filipino Martial Arts, including a variety of weapon work, to build these skills.

Contextual Understanding and Cultural Education

Learning more about the different martial arts, where they come from, how they were developed, and the influences that shaped their practice not only deepen our martial understanding but also provide a fantastic gateway to learning more about other cultures in general!
